Sausage Cheese Dip

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground sausage (mild or spicy, depending on preference)
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 can (10 oz) diced tomatoes with green chilies (Rotel works great)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Sausage:
    • In a large skillet, cook the ground sausage over medium heat until it’s browned and fully cooked, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess grease.
  2. Combine the Ingredients:
    • In the same skillet or a separate medium pot, add the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, sour cream, and the can of diced tomatoes with green chilies (do not drain).
    • Stir until the cream cheese has melted and the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Season the Dip:
    • Add the cooked sausage to the cheese mixture. Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and pepper.
    • Continue cooking over medium heat, stirring frequently, until everything is heated through and the cheese is melted.
  4. Serve:
    • Serve the dip warm with tortilla chips, crackers, sliced baguette, or vegetable sticks for dipping.

Tips:

  • For Extra Flavor: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a few dashes of hot sauce for a spicy kick.
  • Make Ahead: You can prepare the dip a day in advance, store it in the refrigerator, and reheat it when ready to serve. Just add a splash of milk if it thickens too much.
  • Meat Options: Feel free to switch up the sausage with ground beef or turkey if you prefer a leaner option.
  • Serving Suggestions: This dip also works great as a topping for baked potatoes or as part of a taco bar!
