Ingredients:

For the Bread:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional, for extra fudgy texture)

For the Hot Fudge Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

2. Make the Bread Batter:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until smooth and combined.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Add the milk and sour cream to the wet ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Stir in the chocolate chips if using for added fudgy texture.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.

3. Bake the Bread:

  • Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean (a few moist crumbs are fine). If the top begins to brown too quickly, cover the pan loosely with foil and continue baking.
  • Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

4. Make the Hot Fudge Sauce:

  • While the bread is cooling, make the hot fudge sauce. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Once the butter has melted, stir in the heavy cream, cocoa powder, and powdered sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce is smooth and thickened (about 3-5 minutes).
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Let it cool slightly before serving.

5. Serve the Bread:

  • Slice the cooled bread into generous pieces.
  • Drizzle the warm hot fudge sauce over each slice, or serve it on the side for dipping.

Tips:

  • Storage: Store any leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate it for up to a week. Reheat the slices in the microwave before drizzling with hot fudge for a fresh, warm treat.
  • Make Ahead: You can prepare the hot fudge sauce ahead of time and store it in the fridge for up to a week. Just reheat it in the microwave before serving.
  • Customization: Add chopped walnuts or pecans to the batter for some extra crunch, or stir in some mini marshmallows for a fun, gooey twist.
