Butter Cookies Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract (optional for extra flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Mix the Butter and Sugar:
    • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes using an electric mixer.
  3. Add the Vanilla and Almond Extract:
    • Stir in the vanilla extract and almond extract (if using) until well combined.
  4. Add the Dry Ingredients:
    • Gradually mix in the flour and salt. Start with 1/2 cup of flour at a time, mixing until incorporated, until all the flour is added. The dough will be soft and slightly crumbly.
  5. Shape the Cookies:
    • Take small portions of dough and roll them into balls, about 1 inch in diameter. Alternatively, you can use a cookie scoop for even portions.
    • Place the dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. You can gently flatten each ball with the back of a fork or your fingers for a classic butter cookie look.
  6. Bake the Cookies:
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Keep a close eye on them to avoid over-baking.
    • Remove from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Serve:
    • Once cooled, enjoy the melt-in-your-mouth butter cookies! They’re perfect for a sweet treat or for gift-giving during the holidays.

Tips:

  • Customization: Feel free to add sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, or drizzle them with chocolate for added decoration and flavor.
  • Chill the Dough: If the dough is too soft to handle, chill it in the fridge for 20-30 minutes to make it easier to shape.
  • Storage: Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or freeze them for up to 3 months.
