Steakhouse Garlic Butter Mushrooms

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) whole mushrooms (cremini or button mushrooms)
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme (or 1 tsp fresh thyme)
  • 1/2 tsp dried rosemary (or 1 tsp fresh rosemary)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp freshly chopped parsley
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) beef broth (optional, for extra flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the mushrooms:
    • Clean the mushrooms by wiping them with a damp cloth or paper towel. Trim the stems if desired, or leave them whole for a more rustic look.
  2. Sauté the mushrooms:
    • In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat.
    • Add the mushrooms and cook, stirring occasionally, until they release their moisture and turn golden brown (about 5-7 minutes).
  3. Add garlic and herbs:
    • Once the mushrooms are golden brown, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter.
    • Stir in the minced garlic, thyme, and rosemary, and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Optional: Add beef broth:
    • For a richer flavor, add the beef broth to the skillet and let it reduce for 2-3 minutes. This step is optional but enhances the flavor.
  5. Season and finish:
    • Season the mushrooms with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
    • Remove from heat and stir in the chopped parsley for a fresh burst of flavor.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve the garlic butter mushrooms as a side dish to steaks or any main course. They’re especially good with a juicy, perfectly cooked steak!

Tips:

  • Mushroom variety: Use cremini, white button, or even portobello mushrooms depending on your preference. Cremini mushrooms work particularly well for their flavor and texture.
  • Fresh herbs: Fresh thyme and rosemary will add a more intense and aromatic flavor, but dried herbs are a fine alternative.
  • For extra sauce: If you prefer a saucier dish, add more beef broth or a splash of heavy cream towards the end to create a creamy garlic butter sauce.
  • Make ahead: These mushrooms can be cooked ahead of time and reheated just before serving. Just reheat in a skillet over low heat to avoid overcooking them.
