Lemon Pepper Wings with Honey

Ingredients:

For the Wings:

  • 10-12 chicken wings (drumettes or flats, or a mix of both)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Lemon Pepper Seasoning:

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon zest (from about 2 lemons)
  • 1 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional, for color)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

For the Honey Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Wings

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup. You can also place a wire rack on the baking sheet for crispier wings.
  2. Pat the wings dry: Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This helps them crisp up better during baking.
  3. Coat with olive oil: Place the wings in a large bowl and toss them with olive oil. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Step 2: Bake the Wings

  1. Arrange the wings: Lay the wings in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet or wire rack.
  2. Bake the wings: Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Step 3: Make the Lemon Pepper Seasoning

  1. Mix the seasoning: While the wings are baking, combine the lemon zest, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika (if using), and salt in a small bowl. Set aside.

Step 4: Make the Honey Sauce

  1. Combine ingredients: In a small saucepan, combine the honey, fresh lemon juice, lemon zest, and a pinch of salt. Heat over low to medium heat until the honey is warmed through and the ingredients are well combined. Stir occasionally. Be careful not to overheat, as honey can burn quickly. Once heated, remove from the heat.

Step 5: Toss the Wings

  1. Toss with lemon pepper seasoning: Once the wings are baked, remove them from the oven. While they’re still hot, immediately toss them in the lemon pepper seasoning mixture until evenly coated.
  2. Drizzle with honey: Drizzle the warm honey sauce over the coated wings. Toss the wings again to ensure they’re fully coated with the sweet and zesty sauce.

Step 6: Serve

  1. Serve hot: Serve the wings immediately while they’re warm and enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce or a side of fresh veggies!

Tips:

  • Crispy wings: To get extra crispy wings, you can broil them for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking, keeping a close eye to avoid burning.
  • Air fryer option: If you prefer to use an air fryer, cook the wings at 375°F (190°C) for about 20-25 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
  • Extra sweetness: If you love extra sweetness, you can drizzle additional honey on top just before serving.
  • Spicy kick: Add some cayenne pepper to the seasoning for a spicy twist!
