Description

Churros are a beloved treat with their crispy exterior, soft interior, and sweet cinnamon-sugar coating. These Churros Poppers are made with simple ingredients, fried or baked until golden brown, then tossed in cinnamon sugar for that classic churro taste.

Ideal for parties, kids’ snacks, or anytime you crave a sweet, crunchy delight, churro poppers are easy to make at home without the mess of full-size churros.

Ingredients (Makes about 30 poppers)

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

1. Prepare the dough

  • In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, 1 tablespoon sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  • Remove from heat and immediately stir in flour until mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides.

2. Add eggs

  • Transfer dough to a mixing bowl.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each until smooth and glossy.

3. Heat oil

  • Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350°F.

4. Fry the poppers

  • Using a small cookie scoop or piping bag with a round tip, drop small dollops (about 1-inch) of dough into hot oil.
  • Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally for even cooking.
  • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

5. Coat in cinnamon sugar

  • Mix 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
  • Toss warm churro poppers in the cinnamon sugar until coated.

6. Serve

  • Serve warm with chocolate sauce, caramel, or dulce de leche for dipping.

Tips & Tricks

  • If you want a lighter version, bake the dough dollops at 425°F for 15-18 minutes until golden and crisp.
  • Use a piping bag for uniform poppers.
  • Serve immediately for best texture; they soften if left out too long.
  • Experiment with dipping sauces like raspberry jam or peanut butter.

Something Extra from Me

For a fun twist, try filling the poppers with Nutella or cream cheese before frying. Just pipe a bit of filling into the dough dollop before cooking.

You can also sprinkle powdered sugar over the finished poppers for an extra sweet touch.
