Apple Fritter Bites

These Apple Fritter Bites are a mini version of the classic treat, made with chunks of fresh apple in a spiced batter and fried to golden perfection. Coated in a sweet glaze or dusted with powdered sugar, they’re perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a delicious snack.

Ingredients

Fritter Batter:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ⅓ cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup diced apples (peeled and finely chopped, Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)

Glaze (Optional):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

For Frying:

  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
    • In a small bowl, mix the milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
  2. Heat the Oil:
    • In a deep skillet or pot, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to maintain the temperature.
  3. Fry the Fritter Bites:
    • Drop tablespoon-sized portions of batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
    • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  4. Make the Glaze (Optional):
    • In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk, 1 teaspoon at a time, if needed.
  5. Finish the Fritters:
    • Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritter bites or dust with powdered sugar.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve warm and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks

  • Consistency Check: If the batter is too thick, add a splash of milk; if too thin, add a bit more flour.
  • Apple Chunks: Dice apples small to ensure they cook through in the batter.
  • Keep Warm: Place cooked fritter bites on a baking sheet in a 200°F (90°C) oven to keep them warm while frying the rest.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for crispiness.
