Cowboy Burger Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Burger Patties:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean for juiciness)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (for a smoky flavor)
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce (for the burgers)

For the Toppings:

  • 4 hamburger buns (preferably toasted)
  • 4 slices of cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
  • 1/2 cup crispy fried onions
  • 1/4 cup pickles (sliced)
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce (more for drizzling)
  • 4 strips of crispy bacon (optional but recommended)
  • Fresh lettuce (optional)
  • Sliced tomatoes (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Burger Patties

  1. Mix the beef: In a bowl, combine the ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined—don’t overwork the meat, or your burgers may turn out tough.
  2. Form the patties: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty, making a slight indentation in the center to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

Step 2: Cook the Burger Patties

  1. Heat the grill/skillet: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat or heat a skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook the patties: Place the patties on the grill or in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. In the last minute of cooking, add a slice of cheese to each patty and cover to let it melt.

Step 3: Toast the Buns

  1. Toast the buns: While the patties cook, toast your hamburger buns on the grill or in a separate skillet for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

Step 4: Assemble the Cowboy Burger

  1. Spread BBQ sauce: Spread a little BBQ sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
  2. Add the patty: Place the cheese-topped burger patties on the buns.
  3. Add toppings: Top the burgers with crispy fried onions, pickles, a strip of bacon (if using), and a drizzle of more BBQ sauce. Add fresh lettuce and tomato slices if desired.
  4. Close the bun: Place the top bun over the toppings, pressing down slightly to hold everything together.

Step 5: Serve

  1. Serve immediately: Serve the burgers with fries, potato wedges, or a fresh salad on the side. Enjoy your delicious cowboy burger!

Tips:

  • Customize your toppings: Add sautéed mushrooms, jalapeños, or avocado for extra flavor.
  • Bacon: For an extra smoky flavor, use smoked bacon or cook the bacon on the grill alongside the burgers.
  • Burger thickness: If you prefer thicker patties, adjust the cooking time accordingly.
  • Spicy twist: Add a drizzle of hot sauce or spicy BBQ sauce for a kick.
